Context

Street + Garden was commissioned by Anembo Consultants to custom design and manufacture bespoke Cantilevered Shelters and a Bar Setting in line with our Versa Catalogue Suite Design Language as part of the revitalization of the pool podium level at the Grand Pacific Resort in Caloundra.

The custom shelters were designed to compliment the pool layout and to provide a welcome escape from the midday sun while elegantly featuring as part of the ocean views from all aspects within the resort. Lighting was seamlessly incorporated within the shelter frames to extend enjoyment of the space into the evening with subtle up-lights illuminating the underside of the canopy selected to minimize the impact of coastal light pollution which can disorient hatchlings during the critical turtle nesting season in the area. The custom bar setting provides a perfect vantage point to enjoy a sundowner while admiring the twilight glow.

Special consideration was given to the material and finish selection to withstand the harsh marine environment due to the resort being adjacent to Bulcock Beach, the shelters and bar setting were manufactured from Marine Grade G316 Stainless Steel and finished with the highest grade Powder Coat with minimal maintenance requirements for the client to implement to ensure the products can be enjoyed by holidaymakers for generations to come. These custom products showcase the expertise of the Street + Garden design team in utilizing sheet metal to create bespoke, locally manufactured products tailored to enhance each projects creative vision while meeting the specific design life requirements, considering all aspects of the end clients needs and ultimately providing interesting and uplifting spaces for their patrons to enjoy.

Opportunities

This project highlighted Street + Gardens ability to deliver a clients vision, we designed and manufactured custom shelters to suit the brief from Anembo Consultants that provide more than shade and sanctuary from the elements: they became central features of the space, with the sweeping ribbon of the cantilevered structure drawing the eye, framing the views on offer and creating a sense of tranquility within the resort for guests to while away the hours. This required significant structural knowledge and engineering certification to bring to reality, a key difference with the full custom design service Street + Garden offers covering design, supply and certification processes.
